Mission Profile
The Atlas F SGS 1 (HGM-16F SGS-1) was a two-to-three-stage American launch vehicle in the Atlas family, a refurbished Atlas F ICBM paired with a Space Ground System Stage 1 upper stage under the Atlas ICBM Program. Standing 25.1 m tall with a 3.1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 118 tonnes, it generated 1,630 kN of liftoff thrust. First flying in June 1977, the Atlas F SGS 1 launched weather and navigation satellites from Vandenberg Air Force Base, continuing the conversion of retired ICBM hardware into productive space launch vehicles.
