Mission Profile

The Vesta (Vesta SLV) was a single-stage French sounding rocket in the Veronique family, a small solid-fuelled vehicle used for atmospheric and ionospheric research. Standing 4.2 m tall with a 0.6 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 550 kg, it was a compact research tool. First flying in October 1965, the Vesta was used from launch sites in Algeria and French Guiana for upper atmosphere science experiments.
