Mission Profile

The MAKS-OS (Multipurpose Aerospace System, Многоразовая Аэрокосмическая Система) was a proposed two-stage Soviet air-launched spaceplane system in the Soviet Spaceplane family, designed to launch from the back of an An-225 Mriya carrier aircraft. Standing 39 m long with a 6.4 m diameter and a projected takeoff mass of 275 tonnes, it would have generated 3,900 kN of thrust and delivered 6,600 kg to low Earth orbit. Conceived around 1991 under the MAKS programme, the system was cancelled with the fall of the Soviet Union despite reaching an advanced design stage.
