Mission Profile

Thor DSV-2D (Long Tank Thor) is a stretched-tank variant of the Douglas Thor IRBM with a lengthened propellant section for increased first-stage performance, used as the baseline for several reconnaissance satellite launch configurations. First flying on 15 January 1962 under the Thor IRBM Program, it stood 23.5 meters tall with a 52,200 kg launch mass. The Long Tank Thor variants significantly extended the mission capability of the original Thor airframe for classified NRO payloads.
