Mission Profile

The Percheron (GCH Percheron) was a single-stage American experimental rocket built by Space Services Inc., one of the first privately funded launch vehicle attempts. First flying in August 1981, the Percheron exploded on the launch pad at Matagorda Island, Texas during its maiden test. Despite the failure, the effort led Space Services to develop the more successful Conestoga rocket series and helped pioneer the commercial spaceflight industry.
