Mission Profile

The Atlas SLV3D Centaur D1A was a two-stage American launch vehicle in the Atlas family, pairing an improved Atlas booster with the Centaur D1A high-energy upper stage for enhanced interplanetary and geostationary mission capability. Standing 41 m tall with a 3.1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 148 tonnes, it generated 2,087 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 4,760 kg to low Earth orbit or 1,860 kg to geostationary transfer orbit. First flying in August 1973, the Atlas SLV3D Centaur D1A launched Mariner, Pioneer, and early Intelsat satellites during a productive operational career.
