Mission Profile

The Atlas E SGS 2 (CGM-16E SGS-2) was a two-to-three-stage American launch vehicle in the Atlas family, a refurbished Atlas E ICBM paired with a Space Ground System Stage 2 upper stage under the Atlas ICBM Program. Standing 25.1 m tall with a 3.1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 118 tonnes, it generated 1,630 kN of liftoff thrust. First flying in July 1983, the Atlas E SGS 2 launched NOAA weather and GPS navigation satellites from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
