Mission Profile

The Tsyklon-3 (11K68) was a three-stage Ukrainian-Russian launch vehicle in the R-16/R-36 family, derived from the R-36 intercontinental ballistic missile with an added third stage for orbital delivery. Standing 39.3 m tall with a 3 m core diameter and a liftoff mass of 186 tonnes, it generated 2,740 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 3,600 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in June 1977, the Tsyklon-3 was a reliable workhorse that launched hundreds of military and civilian satellites over a three-decade career before being retired in 2009.
