Mission Profile

The Long March 2A (CZ-2A) was a two-stage Chinese launch vehicle in the Long March 2,3,4 family, one of China's earliest orbital rockets derived from the DF-5 intercontinental ballistic missile. Standing 32.6 m tall with a 3.4 m core diameter and a liftoff mass of 190 tonnes, it generated 2,962 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 2,000 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in November 1974, the Long March 2A launched China's first recoverable satellite programme, establishing the foundation for the Long March 2 series that would become a backbone of China's space launch fleet.
