Mission Profile

The Titan IIIB 23 (Titan IIIB(23)) was a two-stage American launch vehicle in the Titan family, a classified military variant used to launch reconnaissance and signals intelligence satellites from Vandenberg Air Force Base. Standing 35.4 m tall with a 3.1 m core diameter and a liftoff mass of 159 tonnes, it generated 1,913 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 3,600 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in August 1969, the Titan IIIB 23 served the US intelligence community throughout the 1970s, launching classified national security payloads into polar and sun-synchronous orbits.
