Mission Profile

The Ariane 44L (AR44L, A44L) was a three-stage European launch vehicle in the Ariane 4 family, the most powerful configuration using four liquid-fuelled strap-on boosters. Standing 58.4 m tall with a 3.8 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 470 tonnes, it generated 5,898 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 4,730 kg to geostationary transfer orbit. First flying in June 1989, the Ariane 44L was the flagship variant of the Ariane 4 programme and the dominant commercial satellite launcher of the 1990s, cementing Europe's position as the world leader in commercial launch services.
