Mission Profile

The Delta II 7920H (Delta 7920H) was a two-stage American launch vehicle in the Delta family, an enhanced variant using nine larger GEM-46 solid rocket boosters for increased liftoff thrust. Standing 39 m tall with a 2.4 m core diameter and a liftoff mass of 260 tonnes, it generated 3,813 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 5,300 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in August 2003, the Delta II 7920H was used for heavier NASA scientific missions including the Mars Exploration Rovers and the MESSENGER Mercury orbiter.
