Mission Profile

The Simorgh (Safir-2) is a three-stage Iranian launch vehicle in the Shahab-5 derived family, developed as a larger follow-on to the Safir with increased payload capacity. Standing 27 m tall with a 2.4 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 87 tonnes, it generates 2,680 kN of liftoff thrust from four clustered engines and can deliver approximately 250 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in July 2017, the Simorgh has had a mixed record of launch successes and failures as Iran works to expand its orbital launch capabilities.
