Mission Profile

The Safir-1 (Safir SLV) was a two-stage Iranian launch vehicle in the Shahab-3 derived family, Iran's first orbital-class rocket. Standing 22 m tall with a 1.3 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 26 tonnes, it generated 320 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver approximately 50 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in August 2008, the Safir-1 successfully placed Iran's first satellite, Omid, into orbit in February 2009, making Iran the ninth country to achieve independent orbital launch capability.
