Mission Profile
The Atlas F (HGM-16F) was a two-stage American launch vehicle in the Atlas family, the final production variant of the Atlas ICBM developed under the Atlas ICBM Program with improved guidance and storable liquid propellant capability. Standing 25.1 m tall with a 3.1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 118 tonnes, it generated 1,630 kN of liftoff thrust. First flying in August 1961, the Atlas F served as a silo-launched nuclear deterrent before retired ICBMs were converted into space launch vehicles, lofting military and scientific satellites into the 1990s.
