Mission Profile
The Mu-1 (M-1) was a two-stage Japanese solid-fuelled sounding rocket in the Mu family, one of the early vehicles developed by the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science. Standing 10.4 m tall with a 0.7 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 5.5 tonnes, it generated 225 kN of thrust. First flying in October 1966, the Mu-1 served as a technology pathfinder for the Mu series of solid-fuelled launchers that would eventually give Japan independent orbital launch capability.
