Mission Profile

Shtil' 2R is a proposed upgraded variant of Russia's submarine-launched Shtil space launch vehicle, derived from the R-29 SLBM and intended to carry slightly heavier small payloads to low Earth orbit from submerged submarines. Standing 14.8 meters tall with a 40-tonne launch mass, the concept was studied around 2010 as an incremental improvement over the operational Shtil. Like other R-29-derived space launch proposals, it represents Russia's efforts to find commercial applications for decommissioned naval missile hardware.
