Mission Profile
The Atlas F Star 17A (HGM-16F Star 17A) was a two-to-three-stage American launch vehicle in the Atlas family, pairing a refurbished Atlas F ICBM with a Star 17A solid kick motor under the Atlas ICBM Program. Standing 25.1 m tall with a 3.1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 118 tonnes, it generated 1,630 kN of liftoff thrust. First flying in April 1975, the Atlas F Star 17A was used to launch small military satellites from Vandenberg Air Force Base, extending the service life of retired ICBM hardware.
