Mission Profile

The Robert Goddard Rocket (Goddard Liquid-Fuel Rocket) was a single-stage American experimental rocket, the world's first liquid-fuelled rocket and a founding milestone of modern rocketry. Standing just 3 m tall with a 0.2 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 19 kg, it was a hand-built proof of concept. First flying on 16 March 1926 in Auburn, Massachusetts, Robert Goddard's creation demonstrated that liquid propellants could power a flight vehicle, laying the theoretical and practical foundation for all subsequent liquid-fuelled rockets and space launch vehicles.
