Mission Profile

The PSLV-G (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) was a four-stage Indian launch vehicle in the LVM family, India's first operational orbital launcher capable of delivering satellites to polar and sun-synchronous orbits. Standing 44.4 m tall with a 2.8 m core diameter and a liftoff mass of 295 tonnes, it generated 4,860 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 3,700 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in September 1993, the PSLV-G established India as an independent spacefaring nation and paved the way for the highly successful PSLV programme that would become a global small satellite launch favourite.
