Mission Profile

The HXLV (Heavy Expendable Launch Vehicle, HX Launch Vehicle) was a two-stage American launch vehicle derived from Pegasus technology in the Orbital Sciences family. First flying in June 2001, the HXLV served as a target launch vehicle for missile defence testing, providing realistic ballistic trajectories for the Ground-based Midcourse Defense system's interceptor tests.
