Mission Profile

The Ariane 5 ES (Ariane 5 Evolution Storable, A5ES) was a two-stage European launch vehicle in the Ariane family, featuring a restartable storable-propellant upper stage for precise multi-burn orbital delivery. Standing 53 m tall with a 5.4 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 780 tonnes, it generated 14,360 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 21,000 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in March 2008, the Ariane 5 ES was the workhorse variant used to launch ESA's Automated Transfer Vehicles to the International Space Station.
