Mission Profile
Atlas Burner 2A is an expendable upper-stage configuration combining the Atlas F ICBM booster with the Boeing Burner 2A kick stage for polar-orbit payloads. It first flew on 2 October 1972 and was primarily used to deliver classified Department of Defense navigation and meteorology satellites. The combination leveraged the Atlas F's proven liquid-propellant core with a solid kick stage to achieve precise injection into high-inclination orbits.
