Mission Profile

Delta N6 was a three-stage American launch vehicle in the Delta family, one of the Thrust-Augmented Delta variants featuring six strap-on Castor solid rocket motors for improved liftoff thrust. Standing 28 meters tall with a liftoff mass of 69,000 kg and generating 758 kN of thrust from its core Thor engine plus the six solids, it could deliver approximately 750 kg to low Earth orbit. Making its first flight in January 1970, the Delta N6 served as an intermediate configuration in the Delta family's evolution during the late 1960s and early 1970s, providing a performance upgrade over earlier Thor-Delta variants for scientific and military satellite deployments during the height of the post-Apollo space program.
