Mission Profile

Delta IV Heavy is the most powerful member of the Delta IV EELV family, combining three Common Booster Cores — a central stage flanked by two additional CBC stages used as strap-on liquid boosters — to create one of the most capable American launch vehicles ever built. Standing 72 meters tall with a liftoff mass of 733,000 kg and generating 9,420 kN of thrust, it can deliver an impressive 28,790 kg to low Earth orbit. Making its maiden flight in December 2004, the Delta IV Heavy served as the primary launcher for the largest and most sensitive U.S. national security payloads including intelligence satellites, as well as performing the Orion Exploration Flight Test in 2014. Its final flight in April 2024 marked the end of the Delta family's 64-year history.
