Mission Profile
Scout D1 was a four-stage all-solid-fuel launch vehicle and a refined service variant of NASA's Scout family, optimized for deploying small scientific and military satellites to low Earth orbit. Standing 25 meters tall with a liftoff mass of 21,300 kg and generating 464 kN of thrust, it could place up to 183 kg in LEO. Making its debut flight in August 1972, Scout D1 maintained the program's proven heritage of reliability and simplicity while incorporating minor improvements over earlier variants. It continued to provide cost-effective small satellite launch services for the NASA science program and military customers throughout the 1970s, contributing to the Scout family's reputation as one of America's most dependable light-lift launchers.
