Mission Profile

Zenit-2FG is a two-stage Ukrainian-Russian launch vehicle and a modernized variant of the Zenit-2 featuring a Fregat-SB restartable upper stage, tailored for missions requiring precise orbital insertion to medium and high Earth orbits. Standing 57 meters tall with a liftoff mass of 462,200 kg and generating 7,550 kN of thrust from its RD-171 engine — the most powerful single-chamber liquid-propellant rocket engine ever built — it can deliver 13,740 kg to low Earth orbit. Making its first flight in November 2011 as part of the Elektro-L meteorological satellite program, the Zenit-2FG demonstrated the Zenit family's continued versatility even as geopolitical tensions between Russia and Ukraine increasingly complicated its operations.
