Mission Profile

Athena 2cs was a proposed three-stage launch vehicle concept derived from the Athena II design, drawing on Peacekeeper ICBM hardware with a stretched configuration intended to increase payload capacity over the baseline variant. Conceived around 2017, the Athena 2cs was intended to fill a niche in the growing small and medium satellite launch market by leveraging surplus military missile motors. The design remained at the concept stage and was never formally contracted or developed, reflecting the highly competitive commercial launch environment of the late 2010s where numerous new entrants were competing for small satellite rideshare opportunities.
