Mission Profile

Scout E1 was a four-stage, all-solid-fuel launch vehicle and a refined service variant of NASA's prolific Scout family, which served as the United States' primary small satellite launcher for over three decades. Measuring 25 meters in length with a liftoff mass of 21,300 kg and 464 kN of thrust, it could place up to 183 kg into low Earth orbit. Making its inaugural flight in June 1974, Scout E1 continued the program's mission of providing reliable, affordable launch services for scientific and military small satellites. Its compact all-solid design allowed launches from both domestic facilities and international sites including Italy's San Marco equatorial platform.
