Mission Profile

The Delta 5920 was an American two-stage medium-lift launch vehicle in the Thor-Delta family featuring nine strap-on solid rocket boosters and a cryogenic second stage, configured for heavier payloads to sun-synchronous and medium Earth orbits. Standing 38.1 m tall with a 2.4 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 219 tonnes, it generated 3,546 kN of combined liftoff thrust and could deliver 4,010 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in November 1989, the Delta 5920 was used for GPS Block II and scientific satellite missions before being superseded by the more capable Delta II 7925 configurations in the early 1990s.
