ALV X1
🇺🇸ARCA ALV X1 Aerostatic Launch Vehicle X1
Mission Profile
The ALV X1 (Aerostatic Launch Vehicle X1) was an experimental Romanian two-stage launch vehicle developed by ARCA Space Corporation that was designed to be released from a high-altitude balloon for airborne orbital launch as a low-cost alternative to conventional ground-based access to space. First flown in August 2008, it explored the operational and performance envelope of aerostatic launch concepts, demonstrating controlled ignition and flight following release from the balloon at high altitude. While serving primarily as a technology demonstrator, the ALV X1 contributed to ARCA's long-running effort to develop unconventional, cost-reducing approaches to small satellite launch.
