Mission Profile
The Ariane 5 G+ (Ariane 5 Generic Plus) was an improved variant of the original Ariane 5 G, featuring an upgraded Vulcain 2 first-stage engine that provided significantly higher thrust and better performance than the Vulcain 1. Standing 52 m tall with a 5.4 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 760 tonnes, it generated 12,940 kN of combined liftoff thrust. First flying in March 2004, the Ariane 5 G+ was a transitional configuration that bridged the original Ariane 5 G and the high-performance Ariane 5 ECA, establishing the improved Vulcain 2 propulsion system that would power the rocket's most successful commercial era.
