Mission Profile

The Scout A1 was a four-stage American all-solid-propellant launch vehicle, a later-series production variant of NASA's Scout family developed by Ling-Temco-Vought for economical small satellite launches from both land and sea-based platforms. Standing 22 m tall with a 1.1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 21 tonnes, it generated 464 kN of first-stage thrust and could deliver 90 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in October 1973, the Scout A1 served NASA and the Department of Defense for scientific, experimental, and military small satellite missions, representing the mature phase of Scout family development.
