Mission Profile
The Start-1.2 was a Russian four-stage all-solid small satellite launch vehicle derived from the decommissioned RT-2PM Topol ICBM, converted into a commercial space access product by the Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology. Standing 22.7 m tall with a 1.8 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 47 tonnes, it generated 1,770 kN of first-stage thrust and could deliver 532 kg to sun-synchronous orbit. First flying from Svobodny in March 1997, the Start-1.2 demonstrated Russia's strategy of converting surplus ICBM assets into low-cost commercial launch vehicles, launching a series of Earth observation and scientific satellites for international customers.
