Mission Profile

The Delta II 6925 was a three-stage variant of the Delta II family featuring six solid rocket strap-on boosters, a cryogenic second stage, and a solid kick motor, designed for medium-weight payloads requiring high-energy orbit insertion. Standing 38.1 m tall with a 2.4 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 219 tonnes, it generated 3,310 kN of combined thrust and could deliver 3,690 kg to low Earth orbit. Its maiden flight on February 14, 1989 marked the formal debut of the Delta II program, launching the first GPS Block II satellite and beginning the rocket family's pivotal role in establishing the Global Positioning System.
