Mission Profile

The Titan 34D was a powerful American medium-to-heavy lift launch vehicle combining an enlarged Titan III core with high-performance solid rocket motors and optional upper stages, developed specifically for the Department of Defense's heavy classified payload requirements. Standing 47 m tall with a 3.1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 626 tonnes, it generated 10,680 kN of combined liftoff thrust and could deliver 14,515 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in June 1983, the Titan 34D served exclusively for national security missions throughout the 1980s, launching large reconnaissance, signals intelligence, and missile defense satellites.
