Mission Profile

The Thor-Delta E1 (DSV-3E1) was a three-stage American launch vehicle combining the Thor IRBM first stage with an improved Delta E upper stage, designed for medium-weight scientific and early communications satellite delivery to orbit. Standing 28 m tall with a 2.4 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 54 tonnes, it generated 758 kN of thrust at liftoff and could deliver 400 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in July 1966, the Thor-Delta E1 served as a capable mid-generation Delta variant for applications satellite launches during the early era of global communications infrastructure.
