Mission Profile

The Scout X (also known as Scout X-1 or RM-82 Blue Scout) was an early American four-stage all-solid-propellant launch vehicle and one of the first production variants of NASA's cost-effective Scout family. Standing 22 m tall with a 1.1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 17,700 kg, it generated 464 kN of first-stage thrust and could deliver 59 kg to low Earth orbit. First flown in April 1960, the Scout X established the reliable four-stage solid architecture that would serve NASA and the Department of Defense for small satellite launches throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
