Mission Profile

The Scout X-2B was a four-stage American all-solid-propellant launch vehicle, representing a mature iteration of the highly cost-effective Scout family developed for lightweight satellite launches from both fixed and ship-based pads. Standing 22 m tall with a 1.1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 17,700 kg, it generated 464 kN of first-stage thrust and could deliver 59 kg to low Earth orbit. First flown in September 1963, the Scout X-2B served NASA and the Department of Defense for scientific and experimental satellite launches, exemplifying the Scout family's reputation as a reliable and economical small launch vehicle.
