Mission Profile
The Delta II 6920 was a two-stage variant of the Delta II family featuring six solid rocket strap-on boosters and a cryogenic second stage, configured for medium-weight payloads to medium Earth and sun-synchronous orbits. Standing 38.1 m tall with a 2.4 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 152 tonnes, it generated 2,726 kN of combined thrust and could deliver 2,826 kg to low Earth orbit. Its maiden flight on February 14, 1990 carried the first operational Block II GPS satellite, beginning the Delta II's pivotal role in establishing and maintaining the Global Positioning System constellation.
