Mission Profile

The Saturn I Block 2 comprised the operational flights (SA-5 through SA-10) of NASA's first Saturn rocket family, featuring live upper stages and the full capability to deploy actual payloads, unlike the Block 1 test vehicles. Standing 55 m tall with a 6.6 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 510 tonnes, it generated 6,700 kN of thrust from its cluster of eight H-1 engines and could deliver 10,200 kg to low Earth orbit. The Block 2 vehicles launched multiple Apollo program test missions and the Pegasus meteoroid detection satellites, validating the technologies and procedures that would underpin the Saturn V's crewed lunar missions.
