Mission Profile

The Saturn Application Single Stage to Orbit was an ambitious NASA concept explored in 1967 under the Apollo Applications Program, investigating whether orbit could be achieved in a single propulsive stage using Saturn hardware and advances in propellant technology. Proposing a single-stage vehicle with a 10.1 m diameter derived from Saturn stage heritage, it studied whether favorable mass fractions could make the SSTO concept practical for post-Apollo operations. Though never developed, this study contributed to the broader body of knowledge that informed single-stage-to-orbit research conducted over the following decades.
