Mission Profile

The Delta IV Medium (4,0) is the baseline configuration of United Launch Alliance's Delta IV heavy-lift family, developed under the U.S. Air Force's Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) program as a two-stage vehicle powered by a single Common Booster Core. Standing 63 m tall with a 5.1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 249.5 tonnes, it generates 3,140 kN of thrust and can deliver 8,600 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in March 2003, the Delta IV Medium served as the workhorse baseline for the family, with more capable variants — including the Delta IV Heavy — built by clustering additional Common Booster Cores.
