Mission Profile

The Space Launch System (SLS) Block 1 is NASA's super heavy-lift rocket and the primary launch vehicle for the Artemis program to return humans to the Moon. Standing 98.1 m tall with an 8.4 m diameter core and a liftoff mass of 2,603 tonnes, it generates an enormous 39,144 kN of thrust from four RS-25 engines and twin solid rocket boosters, delivering up to 95,000 kg to low Earth orbit. SLS Block 1 completed its maiden flight in November 2022 during the uncrewed Artemis I lunar mission, making it the most powerful rocket to fly since the Saturn V.
