Mission Profile

The Jupiter-120 ISS Crew was a proposed crewed launch vehicle from the DIRECT v3.0 concept, designed as a lower-cost alternative to NASA's Ares I rocket for ferrying astronauts to the International Space Station. Leveraging existing Space Shuttle Main Engines and solid rocket booster heritage, this two-stage vehicle was projected to stand 87 m tall with an 8.4 m diameter core and deliver 32,500 kg to LEO. Though never built, the DIRECT proposal represented a serious grassroots engineering effort to reduce development costs by maximizing reuse of proven Shuttle-era infrastructure.
