Mission Profile

The Vostok-2A (11A510) was a Soviet launch vehicle from the R-7 ICBM family, optimized to support the Vostok crewed spacecraft program during the early Space Race. Standing 38.4 m tall with a 3 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 287 tonnes, it generated approximately 3,990 kN of thrust from its cluster of first-stage engines. First flown in June 1962, the Vostok-2A helped establish the foundational launch infrastructure and operational techniques that underpinned the Soviet Union's pioneering human spaceflight achievements.
