Sohae Satellite Launching Station's Chollima-1 Launchpad is North Korea's most modern launch facility, located on the northwest coast of the DPRK near the city of Tongchang-ri, and used for launches of the Chollima-1 carrier rocket carrying military reconnaissance satellites. The pad features a large launch tower and fueling systems constructed with significant Chinese and Soviet engineering influence. North Korea launched its first operational reconnaissance satellite, Malligyong-1, from this pad on 21 November 2023 after two failed attempts in 2023. The facility is subject to ongoing monitoring by international satellite imagery analysts and represents North Korea's most capable space launch infrastructure for its emerging military satellite program.
